When launched in 2012, the mission of the company was to deliver outstanding production qualities, no matter the scale of work. We were committed to delivering the highest quality of design and management to a small school performance or a global tour. Today this still underpins what we believe. Whilst we are now expanding our operation, the overall mission of the company is at the heart of everything we do.

Joe Wailes
FOUNDER, DIRECTOR & AGENT
Joe has always had a passion for Theatre and at the age of 15 decided that Production Arts was his specialty. In the 10 years that followed he travelled the world working on global established productions and new and exciting projects. Joe set up Theatre by Design to make the arts more accessible, allowing high quality work to be shown to a wide audience base. In addition the inclusion of TBD Management has allowed Joe to use his connections to support the new generation of performers making their way into the industry.

Katy Markey
DIRECTOR & LEAD AGENT
Katy has been involved in theatre for her whole life, having previously trained in Musical Theatre at Mountview. She is well known for her performing arts school and theatre company, and the high quality productions she stages. Here at Theatre by Design, Katy leads our production department and our youth talent section, as well as managing our adult clients alongside Joe. An established vocal, acting through song tutor and dance tutor, Katy will also be giving masterclasses and regular audition workshops to our clients exclusively.
Quality, Affordability, Perfection
Founded in 2012 by Joe Wailes, Theatre by Design started out as a design and production management company with the aim of providing a quality service within the budgets available to each individual piece of work.
Since then we have worked on a variety of shows and projects around the world. Specialists in Lighting, Stage Management & Production Management, we have had the pleasure of working on over 100 projects since our launch.
In 2015 we developed an agency that represented creative artists in the Theatre and TV world in order to give young and budding creatives better representation in our industry.
2020 was a difficult year for many but we completed the takeover of artist agency Theatre Artist Direct along with taking over the prestigious Production by Design company based in New York.
In 2021 we became a limited company, brought onboard Katy Markey as a new Director of the company and launched our own producer division named Theatre by Design Productions
In 2022 we will be launching our talent agency, carrying on the successful work from our friends at Theatre Artist Direct.
